What built in mic? Operating system? Should be able to go to Start, Control Panel, Sound and select Recording from the four tabs shown on the box that pops up. You can then disable any microphone input and pick the default one.

What is the make and the model of your new headphones.
Does it need a driver to be installed to work correctly?

If it came with any driver CD, then install the driver to get it working. Is the audio driver loaded in your machine up-to-date? If you don't have any CD, then download the driver with the model number.
