Default Windows XP SP3

Does anyone happen to know when XP service pack 3 is to be released. I cant seem to find a confirmed release. Some sites say 2008 Q1 (which has already passed) and some say Q2.

I have the RC1 installed but would like to know when I can actually download the final edition. If anyone knows please post.

Default Re: Windows XP SP3

There was a problem with MS Small Business POS (Point of Sale) software, such that it caused corruption and even loss of sales data. They delayed Vista Sp1 and Xp SP3 both to fix the problem.

Vista SP 1 was already on the manual download for Windows update (as in you had to go looking for it), and SP3 was slated to be released last Tuesday for manual install via Windows update. That all changed last Monday

I would expect the corrections to be done probably next week, with some testing for a week or two after that.

After they do put it out for manual download, they will place it as optional or critical updates usually 3 weeks after that, according to MS.

Does that answer your question?

As a Side Note, If you are a MSDN subscriber, you can get the Service Packs now, I believe that yesterday the released a patched SP3 for testing. MSDN/Technet subscribers pay good money to get these things first.

Mel8again - If you re-read what I have said, I am saying that I have Release Candidate 1 installed on My Computer. I dont see how the overview link, and it is just an overview link and not download link that you are refering to, in any way concerns the fact that I have stipulated that I have RC1.

I downloaded RC1 sometime back, so long in fact i cant remember when. I am not saying that the latest realease is RC1... the next release will be the final one.

hmm... seems strange. I noticed a great improvement on my system after downloading SP3 and im quite pleased with it. Although being dual core on XP things run quite well anyway.

XP SP3 has been designed to give a 10%+ speed boost. You should very well notice the difference. Too bad there is no SP3 for 64-bit
