Default Yet another pointless Experiment
I found myself bored the other day so I decided to see if I could get Vista to run on the old desktop that has been gathering dust for the last 8 years.

The Beast is:

Pentium III 500Mhz
384 Mb Ram
30gb HDD
Onboard Graphics & Sound

Well, after setup completed (took 1hr 40mins and waiting another 3mins for Vista to load and become useable, I went about turning off all the eye candy and set it to Vista Basic Settings.

I was actually quite suprised at how the old dragon coped with Vista, I mean it was mega slow but it did work even if it did take 40seconds to open Internet Explorer.

I remember thinking how slow this computer was when I eventually abandoned it many years ago and that was with Windows 2000 lol. But It just about managed to function with vista.

And yes this was another pointless experiment... I must have too much time on my hands

Haha thats kinda cool
I know what would be good, if you recorded how many seconds it takes to boot, and see how many seconds you can cut of from it by disabling everything you don't need.

And well, its better then being bored i guess

I just tried Mandriva, and it didn't like my wireless card. Ubuntu Hardy has been more unstable than Vista on my laptop - if it worked it would be great!

On further investigation it seems like my wireless drivers are the cause of making my kernel unstable, causing the entire system, or at least the window manager, to lock up.

Yea I had that problem with my linksys wireless adaptor, but I just removed it since I don't use wireless anyways.
