Default Windows XP/ADVENT 8117 Sound Prob

Im pretty sure I have mentioned this problem before, but I still have not managed to sort it yet and Im getting to the point where im pulling my hair out.

I have a Advent 8117 Laptop with the following:

Intel Core Duo T2080 1.73Ghz
3Gb DDRII 533 RAM
Intel 943GML(calistoga) + ICH7-M
Supports Intel GMA 950
120Gb Sata Hdd

I have been trying to get Windows XP to install on this machine. Firstly I had problems with the SATA drive not being recognized by XP so I slipstreamed the drivers into the XP set up and that worked fine.

No i have the problem of setting up the audio on this laptop. As I have been told this is HD-AUDIO and the drivers come in two parts Motherboard drivers and realtek drivers. I have tried numerous different ways and configurations to get sound to this little beast but with no luck. There must be somebody somewhere out there who knows what i need to do. I have tried the motherboard drivers and the standard realtek hd drivers and this doesnt work.

I really dont want to have to run xp with no sound at all but it looks like this might have to be the case, as the only alternative is to run vista and i dont want to do this really because it hogs so much resources even when tweaked about, and as its only 120gb hdd i dont wanna fill it up with vista stuff.

Any help you can give me on this would be so great. Ive spent so many hours on trying to sort this out. I will be forever in your debt.

Thanks in advance.

PS. Vista installs drivers automatically & so does any linux distro, and yet still xp sp3 doesnt install these automatically. Get with the times M$

Have you tried any other OS to see if it detected the sound card?

Is there a reason you need XP or do you just prefer it. Also can you post a screen shot of the device manager with all the pluses expanded?

They are working at the moment, thats because im currently using vista. Its when I use xp that the problems start. I think maybe im just gonna change to linux, i do like vista, but not that much. So i think the alternative is linux. Any advice on which distro to use as a newbie to linux, im not too keen on ubuntu.
