I finished building a new computer, using a Asus M2N32-SLI Wireless Deluxe Edition motherboard and an Athlon 64 X2 6400 + AM2 processor. When starting the computer I get "Missing operating system" message. In order to install the o/s I insert my Windows XP Pro,Upgrade Version into the DVD drive. To my surprise I get the same message,"Missing operating system". Therefore I have a few questions: 1) What else can I do ? 2) For some reasons I cannot bring my DVD drive to the top of the BIOS boot menu.Could this be a problem ? 3) On my old computer I first installed Windows98SE and then XP on top of it. Should I try this again ? 4) Is it possible to install Windows98SE on my system ? Thanks for your help Buert

first you must make your dvd drive your first boot device like mr. computer says..then you have to install windows 98 se. once that is installed then you must do an upgrade from windows 98 se to windows xp professional. you cannot do a clean install with a windows xp upgrade disk

You do not have to have 98 on the machine before you install the upgrade version of XP. BUT you must have the win98 cd handy, because the setup will want to verify you own the full version of an OS (win98se). Yes, make the CD/DVD boot before the hard drive in bios.
