For anyone who is interested: Windows Vista: 64-bit Editions I found this today while surfing MS for 64-bit options. You do not have to have Vista Ultimate to get 64-bit accessibility, though Ultimate is the only CD that includes a 64-bit install free-of-charge. For customers like myself, who own Home Basic/Premium, you can purchase a DVD that contains a 64-bit install. The prices is $9.95 + S/H according to the website. Just some information for anyone who may not know already. Note: You must have a valid product key for your current version of Vista to enable the ordering of the 64-bit content.

I only medium/basic level of computers, but i thought i read 64 bit is approx from memory some 20% faster on tested apps. is this the main reason to go 64bit? i have read 64 bit unfortunately has a LOT of compatibility problems still. im sticking to 32bit for some time.

A 64 bit processor will not be any faster than a 32 bit processor for most applications. It only when you are working in larger memory environments, above 4 GB where you will see the advantage. Most home computers have yet to reach the 4 GB mark in total installed memory. Maybe the next version on windows will require 4 GB to run though At this point, since most applications are compiled for 32 bit, then it is best to just run the 32 bit OS.
