| I am using Win XP in my PC. Since after I installed it, the PC is slow in performance - especially while more browser windows are open. I was using Win 98SE formerly which had good performance. What can I do to make my PC speeder? |

| Hi there shyampc, Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership. Not giving back to the community once we have helped you is stealing. What sort of computer are you running XP on, and how old is it? What CPU and RAM do you have?

| You should consider adding another 256MB RAM. That will mostly solve your problem.

| Yes, you really should consider adding more RAM. Virtual memory may help a little, or slow things down, since your hard drive is much, much slower than RAM.

| This user doesn't seem to be returning, but XP can run fine on 512 if you're only doing the basics. I have a virtual machine with it installed, and it runs smoothly on 128MB. I only use this for BBC iPlayer video, and my phone's transfer software, though. However, 512 is the recommended minimum, and if you're doing any kind of heavy tasks such as video editing, Photoshop or CAD, then you really want a gig or more.
