What current service pack do you have installed on your computer, and how old is it?
I firmly suggest that if you haven't already done so, that you back up all of your data. SP2 totally messed up my old machine [which would have been around 6 or 7 years old now if I still had it] and it wouldn't boot.

Hi Ash,

I appreciate you getting back on this. Well, I currently have Windows XP Service Pack 1 installed. It's about 5 or 6 years old.

Hi Phurios-M.

To help up help you, here are a couple questions:

> Are you trying to download from Microsoft website, or with the Auto Update feature on XP?

> Does your OS Validate?

> Can you download the file to your desktop?

> If so, what happens when you open it?

Please be as specific as possible. Thanks ...

You may have more success updating from CD vs. online:

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

For anyone else who is interested, you can download SP2 as a stand alone file that you can burn to cd for the future.

Just got to microsoft.com/downloads and search for 'service pack 2'
Scroll till you find 'Windows XP Service Pack 2 for IT Professionals and Developers'
Download that one, it should do the trick.
