Default Vista Dual Boot

Yes, I have asked about vista dual boot before. Although, the questions I asked provided small pieces to the puzzle that is vista. Now I want the picture, not just a bunch of pieces I put together. This is background information followed by my ultimate question. I have a computer that is capable of vista. I plan on buying an UPGRADE copy of vista home premium. My computer has two drives primary which contains my copy of xp home edition SP2, and if almost full. I have a secondary drive that contains files I couldn't fit on my primary drive. My secondary drive is the destination of vista. Can I install an UPGRADE copy of vista home premium on my secondary drive? If I can, I would like step-by-step instructions on how to do so. TIA

Just to confirm, do you have separate hard drives, and/or partitions?

I do have two hard drives. My primary has xp, and my secondary has misc. files and is the destination for vista. Can I dual boot by putting an upgrade copy of vista on my secondary when xp is on my primary?
