I really hope that it is totally different from previous versions and offers something new because the difference between xp and vista are not really all that noticeable, and most of what we can do on vista can be done with xp such as the sidebar gadget you can just use a yahoo widgets and releasing it in 2-3 years is a bad idea why would they bring out vista make everybody upgrade and then bring out a new version it would have to offer something really beneficial

Vista really is a 'filler' version of Windows - similar to Windows Me as a filler between 98 and XP. Both introduced a few new features in the default OS done by other software in the past, both were met with a lukewarm response by the computing community, and both have/had a range of problems. There's a reason why I formatted Vista and installed Ubuntu on my laptop last night. Now, I must say that Vista looks great and it [/i]does[/i] introduce a few very useful features [such as the search option] and for anyone who's got a beefy machine and a demand for a tightly intergrated OS, then Vista is for them. But it's still based on the original 14-year-old code from NT that featured in 2000 and XP, and it's about time that MS did a total rewrite of Windows. There's already been some mentions of the next version of Windows [it's codename is Vienna, if you want to Google for it], but if Microsoft keep up their current standard then more people than they can afford to lose will switch over to Linux. Dell already sell some computers with Ubuntu preinstalled in the US, and I'm sure other computer manufacturers will follow suit.

Yes i agree if Microsoft wants to keep its foothold in being the number one chosen operating system there it is going to change alot i mean even its web browser isn't favored as much as FireFox maybe a complete redesign for Vienna would be a good idea. i mean if people are willing to learn to use a mac of Linux maybe they could re learn some new aspects of windows.

Default Life After Vista

For me, life after Windows Vista is non-existant, because I'll never install it. But even when Vienna is released, I'll probably have a new laptop and will care less about a new OS (other than to service them).

I recently had the please to service a Mas G4 with OSx. What a nice machine. I'm very impressed. My next operating system, after XP, will be the Mac with OSx.

First of all, Vista is based off of Windows Server 2003, not 14-year-old NT code (Server 2003 probably has very little old code in it).

Second, Microsoft's intentions are for Vista to last 10 years. Vista includes many of the features that were originally planned for Vienna, also. So, don't get your hopes up for a new Windows in 2009...

After Using Vista HP on my PC, the drivers neally sent me mad, the incompability with graphics card, tuner card near sent me bonkers, then my favourite game'close combat' could not H2H on gamespy, i constantly ran into problems, with 32BIT!!! 64 bit must be a nightmare!

so back to XP for PC.

Vista HP is great in the lounge room, LOVE Media Centre for ease of use, recording and playback, its a top bit of gear, i wish XP MCE was as good,id stick to that.

I was told that a sp1 for vista was available if u looked for it at microsoft, not available on Update, but i dont always believe what im 'told' truth? i cant be bothered....

I came across a pretty funny issue with Vista as outlined in a website.

Is it true that Vista can delete certain programs without our knowledge? And that Windows Defender - the anti-virus program - decides what to remove?
Moreover, like some of the accessible components went away with the introduction of XP, same thing can be expected of Vista.

I think, just as XP did, Vista will get better with the release of a couple service packs. I thought XP was pants (and so did many other people) until SP1 and SP2 were released

Of course there'll be another Windows.

That's if MS can stay together with antitrust suits, people switching to Linux and Bill no longer leading the company, during the 5-10 years they will no doubt take to develop this new OS...

Well, I have used Vista for a while now on my dads work laptop, and jesus what a dog of an OS it is, why does it not run smoothly? Graphics are so glitched out, sometimes aero loads, sometimes the OS loads with classic themes, and its not like he hasnt got the spec either. Anyway, its a work machine, so Im not allowed to fix it .

I think vista is fine. However there are a few problems that can be worked out it is not a bad operating system. Besides there is the possiblity of dual booting to avoid the conflicts that are present with vista. As for Windows 7 I am looking foward to it.
