Default Windows XP reinstall limit

According to our records, the number of times you an activate Windows with this product key has been exceeded. Please enter a different product key, and then click Retry. The 25-digit product key should be located on the back of the Windows XP CD folder on a sticker that looks similar to this: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

I never knew that there was a limit of the number of times I could reinstall windows xp. What is maximum number of times you can reinstall window xp on a computer?

There is no limit. However, Microsoft block you activating online a key more than 10 times to prevent piracy - most users do not reformat as often as you probably do. All you need to do is the phone activation - My copy of Office wouldn't activate, and I did it by phone. It's a little tedious entering numbers, but it is all automatic. You do have the option of speaking to a customer rep though [who might be in India]

Activating by phone is the way to go. It is not that hard BUT you have to listen very close to copy the numbers they give you.
