how do i gain admin. rights from a limited account.

Hi there mi505,
Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and post here rather than vanish, never to return once we've given you our advice which is a really unfair thing to do. Also please avoid using ALL CAPS on this forum in the future.

All you need to do is log in as an administrator, go to Control Panel and then User Accounts. Click on the account that you want to give administrator access and then click Change Account Time. Choose Administrator instead of Limited and click Change Account Type.

How come your account has limited powers? Did you lock yourself out of your computer?

What operating system is the computer running? And if it's XP, is it Home, Professional, or MCE?

o sorry it's windows xp home. i've tried safe mode, hidden user account , command prompt but everything i do says error 5 or login and try again with amin. rights but i dont have that.

When you tried Safe Mode - did you log on as Administrator or your own username?

No need to be rude - we're the ones providing the free help here... I just asked what you tried. But - did you actually try the Administrator account under Safe Mode?

TBH it sounds as if the brother has a good reason to have locked down this account, ignorance is no excuse for rudeness.

If you dont know the admin password, either the windows logon admin or the bios admin or the safe mode admin password, then in short, no you cant change it.

Evidentlly you dont need passwords to be able to access account any more Ash, i believe thats what is being implied by our learned friend there.
