Windows It's the most common one, but is it the best? From Windows 1.0 to Vista, as well as the up and coming Windows Vienna, talk about what 9 out of 10 computers has.

Dad has a friend that lives in Naples Florida. She e-mailed me and said, "Do you think my buying an Apple computer instead of a Windows would be wise? Knowing me maybe learning all over again with one might not be wise, but friends down here are fed up with Dell and not too happy with Hewlet Packard either. Do any of you have the Windows Vista yet and do you think I would like it? Only respond when you can. Thanks. Lois And this was my Reply. "Hi Lois! If I were you I wouldn't get an Apple computer because you don't have any experience with them. I have never had an Apple computer, but from what I hear switching from Windows to Apple is a big adjustment and is pretty hard. Now about Dell computers, Dell is known for their exploding batteries and defective power adapters. People don't really dislike HP computers as much as Dell computers. What don't you like about Dell and HP computers? I have an Acer Aspire 3000 And I like it pretty well. It was a good price, but I have noticed that it has dramatically gone down in price since I bought it in 2005, most computers do. Everybody has his or her own opinion of which computer brand is the best. You should probably go with Sony, IBM Lenovo, or Acer. They are usually pretty good quality. Now on your question about Windows Vista. I had a trial version of it and it requires a lot of memory, hard drive space, and video memory. My computer has 60 Gb hard drive 1 Gb of memory, 32 Mb of video memory and it could barely handle Vista, the mouse would jerk across the screen and it took about 3 minutes to start up. Microsoft mainly just added new skin and some more programs and little tweaks such as an onscreen clock and calendar. You might as well get a computer that has Vista because Microsoft will drop support for Windows XP in 2 or 3 years, but you will want to add more memory to your computer." Lois is a millionaire so she is not concerned about the cost. Also she has a bunch of other dell and HP laptop computers that she might give me. Do you guys think this was a good reply?

I think that reply was right. A few things apple is mainly used for music photo editing etc, and is hard to get used to. The best option would be to buy a new computer with vista already installed onto it don't try and upgrade as this will cause problems. I am using vista at the moment and bought from dell fantastic computer, high performance. Hope this helps!

| Apples are advertised as being easy computers to use. They are expensive, but most people I know who've switched have said they are much better than Windows and much more stable. Maybe she should get one and try it out - but everyone I know who's made the switch won't go back.

Okay, Le's just say I'm not here to bash PC's. But Vista is like putting lipstick on a Pig. It's still a pig!! It's over kill, requires too much system resources and it complicates the whole windows experience. In my opinion it's mostly window dressing. Mac OSX or Windows Vista, it's hands down easier to use the Mac. Now if you ask me about Mac OSX and Windows XP, it's all about how you are going to use it. I have both, work on both and each have their major pluses and minuses. Mac: Easy to Set up and a great set of full apps. PC: Easy to set up, but full of bloatware (Software samples from vendors to keep the cost of PC's down. My PC at home still gets pop-ups for upgrades. If you just want Email, Internet, Photos, Music, Video, then get a Mac. If you want to develop Access or .net apps get a PC. If you want to play games then get a XBox, PS3 or a PC*(*With one hell of a graphics card.) Mac's have their drawbacks, like some websites don't follow W3C specifications and build their sites for windows only. Not really a Mac's fault. They cost a little more, but there is the reliability factor, the software that comes with it and I won't tell you there's a coolness factor. But most people smile when they first get on a Mac. Choose what you think will work best for your needs. If you let it up to me to pick your computer, I'd have to say, pick the one that you want and can support or the one that your support would pick and then call that support every time you have a question. That'll teach your support for recommending based on his needs and not yours. But it is true, your support will know how to deal with the PC's specific issues and probably even you. Happy Computing........
