| The start bar may be in "auto-hide" mode (my personal preference). Take your mouse to the very bottom of your screen and see if it pops-up. If it does, and you don't like auto-hide, right-click the bar and uncheck "auto-hide". Also, the start bar can be dragged around the screen, check the left and right sides of your screen as well for a "hidden" start bar - or even the other monitor if you're using more than one. |

| I was experiencing the same missing Start Bar (on XP) problems as 'Bob the Computer Guy' (eplorer.exe, Windows key, Ctrl+Exc, launching start bar properties from contol.exe apparently doing nothing). The 'missing Start Bar' problem occured when the vidio cable was briefly detached (PC was on). When the cable was reattached the resolution was out of whack and start bar went missing. Turns out that the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" setting became enabled even though I only have one monitor...and the Start bar and related properties boxes were being redirected to the non-existing, non-viewable monitor. To check: Right-click anywhere on the desktop and selet "Properties". Select the "Settings" tab and uncheck the "Extend my Windows destop onto this monitor" for any "monitors" |
