Default Stopping Auto Install on Startup, possible?

Hello,

I am running XP Media center. I had a major problem the other day and ended up having to do a system restore. I have never really done this before. But all went well. Except that every time I load windows there is a software called ScanSoft that is trying to install it self.

I stop the install by canceling it each time, but it just keeps coming back.

I went in to Safe Mode with Admin with Command Prompt only and searched and delete everything related to ScanSoft. Still it keeps coming back.

Any ideas on how to stop this without a reinstall?

Hey Jemrada,

You might want to try a little program called Crap Cleaner. Not only will it get rid of all of your useless files [and unless you uncheck the box, your cookies], but it also has tools for removing start up entries and an uninstaller which is faster than going into the control panel and waiting for XP to populate the list.

Once it's all set up and installed, load the program and once loaded select the Tools button on the left hand pane then the Startup button. Then remove any entry referring with "ScanSoft". While you are there, remove entries for any other programs which you don't need, particularly if you are using an OEM copy of XP that came preloaded with a load of software. If you are unsure of whether to remove a program, a quick Google will sort you out.
Hope that helps
