Default Vista to be the last major windows?

Gartner has made 10 predictions, including stating that Vista will be the last major release of Windows and PCs will halve in cost by 2010.

Hmmm very interesting, but I cannot imagine Microsoft settling at that. It's a power profit organization, they'll make us buy as much as they can for as little effort as possible Still, it would be nice if they would focus all their efforts into making one OS that ran well

yeah I suppose, but maybe they will change the naming convention and base something else on windows and call it something else, simular to the dos to win convertion in the 80s. maybe theyll release "doors" with a 3D GUI?. Anyway talking about 3D GUIs take a look at project looking glass from sun microsystems. http://www.sun.com/software/looking_glass/

i certainly hope that vista will not be the last. i agree with some of the above posters that although each OS presents SOME new features and of course updates, it is still inferior compared to UNIX-based operating systems (my opinion).

Exclamation Windows Vista just may be their last.

Thank Rob. With the recent news about Goobuntu and Google's intentions about designing the would's most stable and popular OS, this prediction may become a reality sooner than we all think.

Years ago when Microsoft suffered in sales and was facing a very competitive OS against Lindows (now Linspire), Bill Gates was peeing in his panties. Had it not been for Microsoft litigating against Linspire because of the name "Lindows", in addition to draining Lindows of financial resources to fight agaist Microsoft, Lindows would have been today an extremely competitive OS against Windows.

Today, Bill Gates is no longer peeing in his panties -- because of Google (who has no intention of making the same mistake as Lindows), Bill Gates is now peeing bullets and can feel the sting of defeat crawling upon him.

Rest assured, Google will not err like Lindows. Google has a FAT WALLET to back up any attempts by Microsoft in pulling some legal manouvers against Google.
