Default Common DVD Problem

I hear a'lot of storys where your DVD burner won't open DVD's I have never had that problem until now. I Put a blank DVD into my DVD burner and when I try to open the drive from MY COMPUER it says Please insert a DVD into the drive.
I have put in different DVD's but they still won't open.

Firstly, you might want to try opening up the Device Manager [Windows Key+Pause/Break, Hardware tab, click the button] and uninstall the CD drive. Reboot, and Windows will hopefully automaticly detect it. Then try again and see if it still happens.

Happened before.. check that you have the right DVD R (your player might be DVD+R and you have a DVD-R for example). Might just be faulty disks, or try what the admin said!

Question DVD issues

There could be many issues around this problem. The first thing that would be helpful would be more information from you.

1. Do you have a DVD-R/RW, a CD-R/RW, or just DVD?

2. Do you have a DVD+ (plus) or DVD- (minus) DVD-R/RW?

3. How old is it?

4. Has the CD ever played a DVD before?

5. Does the same DVD that won't work on your computer, work on others' computers?

6. What changes have been made to the computer since your last use of the DVD drive?

7. Doed the drive play any CD's what so ever (such as a CD that has music or a program on it)?

Answering the above may be helpful to pin-pointing the problem.
