| Windows It's the most common one, but is it the best? From Windows 1.0 to Vista, as well as the up and coming Windows Vienna, talk about what 9 out of 10 computers has. |

| I have somebody that wants to try different O.S's and see witch one they like better. I was able to get them Window 95,98,ME, and XP but not 2000. This person deos'nt like XP and would probably want Windows 2000. What I want to do is get a trial period of Windows 2000 and Install It on their system(Pentium 3, 20GB Hard drive, 512MB Memory)and if they like it they will buy it. Is there any place were I can download a trial of Windows 2000? Thank You! |

| I don't think that you can get a trial version, but you can get a copy of it through the illegal channels. However, we do not support illegal activity here, so you will have to find a copy of it yourself, i.e through BitTorrent. However this will be illegal and I do not suggest you do it. You should be able to pick up a cheap copy of W2K from eBay, though.

| Unfortunatly you cannot get Windows 2000 trials, and 2000 is relativly unsuppoted. XP seems to have taken over, although if he doesn't play games you could always try linux, as linux has the ability todo most things a windows workstation can, you can now even run Office and Photoshop natively using Wine.

| No problem, we are here to help and we hope that you continue posting here in the future - we will be glad to have you here in the community. Now you may want to try Linux, which is free to use, copy, modify and redistribute - Ubuntu Linux is easy to use and you can even get a completley free CD with it on at https://shipit.ubuntu.com/. Now, if you must go with Windows, then I suggest waiting for Windows Vista to be released - you should then be able to pick up a cheap copy of XP.

| Microsoft no longer support Windows 2000 Proffesional. I think it is highly unlikely that they will provide a trial from their website. A good idea might be just to buy the whole OS off ebay, this would be relatively cheap because it is becoming old. I have to admit out of all the Windows verisons 2000 Pro is my favourite. I regret upgrading to XP, I should've made the move right to Mac OSX. But if I had to stick with Windows, Windows 2000 Pro is the way to go at the moment. It is very stable for a windows OS. But it is very unsupported now.

| If you are going to buy from eBay make sure the disc comes with the certificate of authenticity. That is the only way you will be able to prove you have a legal, valid license. |

| I bought XP off ebey for $75 and already have it. One other thing I could have done was get it on Thanksgiving. I live near a mall that has great deals for the holidays like 99 bucks for a laptop computer after rebates and free home networking kit with any purchase over $150. There are great deals on computers and all kind of things where I live. |

| yeah, i guess you are really lucky, laptops start at like $450 here in the UK.

| No. There are no trial versions of Windows 2000. However ... To experience a bit of Microsoft Windows 2000, without having to fork out all the money on purchasing it, there are two (2) recommendaion I have. First, ask around your group of friends and various family members who might have Windows 2000. Ask them if you can see the Operating System run on their computer, because you are considering purchasing it. Also ask them to show you how it runs in comparison to other Windows versions. Second, if you have Windows XP installed on a computer, there are setting that will remove the Windows XP themes, and revert back to a classic Windows theme. On Windows XP, from your desktop click Start, then in a blank area right below the Programs button, right-click your mouse and in the sub-menu select Properties. In Properties, at the bottom, check the Classic Start Menu. Thus: Start > right-click > Properties > Classic Start Menu. Another way of doing this is from your desktop, right-click My Computer, select Properties, select Advanced tab, then in the Performance area select Settings. Select Custom, and uncheck all the boxes. Thus: Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced> Performace Settings > Custom > uncheck all. After you have done this, you are now looking at a slightly advanced and extremely similar version of Windows 2000 Professional. Last edited by Tom; 05-06-2007 at 10:49 AM. |
