Default [SOLVED] SLOW PROBOARDS

Ok I am not sure I am posting this in the right place but worth a shot, see my problem is about 6 weeks ago for some reason a site I visit regularly began to go really slow it is a proboard forum anyway I am the only one on the site with this problem, and any other site I look at goes fine except for proboards. they are all slow. I have deleted history temp file, cookies run virus, adware spyware, rebooted system and modem, turned of firewall and anything I can think off. and nothing seems to work, I have changed from Internet Explorer to Firefox, I have posted in Proboards support and got no help there, on another support form they suggested I pinged the site and do a tracert, which I did but do not understand the results, and we seem to have all those guys stumped so if anyone thinks they can help or want more info any ideas would be greatly appreciated it is my favourite site and I am going crazy.

You also might want to try the opera web browser. And if you're thinking, why the heck would I have three web browsers? I was that way as well. I have found with ie7, ff, and opera, each one has its specific advantages. I have found it very useful to have three browsers. It also might be a bandwidth issue for the site, which you can't fix.

Hi there Jasper,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership.

Most Proboards sites are slow, as it's not a very good board hosting service. It's likely Proboards.com won't do anything about it, unless the board upgrades to their premium service. Tell the owner to consider switching, and make sure you have the Adblock function for Firefox [sometimes it's the ads that slow down sites]. Get it at Adblock Plus: Save your time and traffic.
But unless many sites are slow, it's unlikely to be an issue with your computer. Consider contacting your ISP about it. Just before you do - are you connected straight to your modem or through a router?

Hi There jsmith70 & Ash

Thanks for the responses, Well it was only proboard sites and no one else on the board seems to have any problem, Did a post there and everyone said there's was ok, it is definitely any proboard site I visit but also a few other forums I have notice load very slow but others fast, things like ebay and other site all really fast so it has me stumped as to why only proboard. Even this forum is very slow for me to load.

I am connected straight to the modem, and I have contacted my provider and all I got was it is alright this end not much help I am afraid and Like I say it is only certain sites. I will try what you have both suggested and see how it goes. Thanks Again.

You might want to try out OpenDNS:
OpenDNS > Get Started > Windows

Also - what security software do you happen to be running? Some can considerably slow down network traffic.

Ok Now I hope I am answering the right questions cause I am not to computer smart here LOL,

Ok I only have 1 Firewall and it is Zone Alarm, Virus I have AVG, and Adware and Spybot,

Is that what you wanted to know? Tried to download Adblock and firefox stopped it so does it have something else monitoring it too?

Just briefly, consider disabling ZoneAlarm [and keep the Windows firewall enabled]. Sometimes firewall software can cause slow speed issues or make websites not load at all.

Ok I know it was risky but I was told by proboards to disable all firewalls and see if that worked and it did not, also looked at my DSN server and it is set to automatically find so should I change that, I just have never touched anything that side if the computer so scares me a little,

Ok perhaps dumb questions I am not sure but someone told me to enable cache now what is that and how do I do it, I have found on my network setting in firefox it says use up to 50MB of space for cache, I am not sure what that is but it seems small to me, also would the tracert info help you at all

Enabling cache will just load a saved copy of the page from your computer, rather than a fresh one off the net. You might miss new posts because of this and I personally browse with cache disabled.
You can safely change your DNS servers. If there are any problems at all, just set it back to Automatic, and it should be fixed.
As I said before, we're here to help. And we appreciate you helping us by posting, too

Ok well I opened the DSN Server like you suggested and it made no difference, Enabling cache does not sound like something I want to do so I will forget that. can you see anything in the traceert that would be a problem cause it is all double Dutch to me.

Ash of course if I ever see anything on the forum I could help with of course I would post however must admit not to computer smart here but thanks to this little drama I am learning new stuff everyday so that is a plus.

You don't necessarily need to help, as you can post in our off-topic forums:

But I think you will learn more and more by browsing the forum and asking questions. I started out here with a so-so knowledge of computers. Now that I've browsed and asked questions, I know a lot more. Also, it's a lot easier to learn in a friendly environment like compuforums.
