Default MV Web Developer 2005 help.

Hey, right i've downloaded 'Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition' - AND I tried uploading the starter page that came with it. (The .ASP one) I follwed the steps and all, but nothing happens. Well, I mean it uploads fine etc, and you can read it... But with HTML the dafault page is Index.html - Whats the .ASP one? I uploaded it to:

http://images.zeldio

Any help, please!

Kirk.

The default page depends on your host, but it's usually index.asp or default.asp.

If you're having problems - have you checked that your host supports ASP files? Many don't.

Hmm. It's called default.aspx or default.aspx.vb. So, my host probably doesnt let me have it then. Do you know of a host that does?

I'm currently not aware of any hosts who offer ASP as it's not something I generally look for. However, you may not be able to find a free one that offers it.

I can have a look around the net for you, if you'd like.

Just be wary of both 1&1 + GoDaddy Hosting - they both have bad reputations in the webmaster community.

Ahh thanks, it does. I thought 1and1 was one of the biggest and 'best' hosting services about? Thats the only reason I went with them, well that and they were cheap!

I've read in a lot of webmaster forums lately how 1&1 have been poorly treating customers and generally becoming a poor company for hosting. Also avoid HostGator - the stole $800US from me.

Wow. Thats alot of money to loose. Your English right, does it work out cheaper to buy from some American host?

Yes - you really need to pay a premium if you want to host here in the UK. In the US, they tend to have better backbone connections to the rest of the world and larger datacentres. In fact - this site is hosted somewhere in the US.

You may still need to pay a bit extra for ASP access, but you'll still get it cheaper from America.
