Default Binary and Hex?

Hello.

I've just started learning Binary.. And yea, it's going all good. But I need to start with Hex, does anybody know a good site to learn Hex from? Becuase Google just gives me rubbish and like hardcore detail. I just want something smple to start from!

Also, what's a good Binary editor, I want something like full DOS looking screen, something to make me look like a true programer! But something that works with XP.

Many thanks.

Hi kirkyturky,
Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and share your knowledge rather than vanish into thin air once we've given you our advice.

Have you seen the tutorial on Intuitor Hex Headquarters, Learning Hexadecimal

And regarding your question about a binary editor - you might want to use an actual DOS one for that retro effect, or consider using Linux and a console-based editor.

I think my dad has an old DOS somewhere, so I might ask him.

Again, many thanks.

P.S. I will stick to this forum, as the others just anoy me and this one has a nice look! Well done.

Great to know you'll be here often, we try our best to make sure all members have a great experience, unlike most of the other computer forums.

If you're after a simple binary to hexadecimal calculator, then the utility that comes with Windows is what you need. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Calculator, or simply press the Windows Logo Key and R on your keyboard, and then type calc into the box and hit enter.
Once loaded, click on the View menu, and select Scientific.

Use the Bin and Hex radio buttons to convert numbers - for example, click on the Bin radio button, enter the binary number, and then click on the Hex radio button and you'll see the conversion result in the data entry/display box.

Thanks a lot Ash, I'm making a Wii save file editor, and I have to convert bits of data people give me to hex, I didn't know you could do that with windows calculator.

And kirkyturky, I doubt you care, but a good hex edito is 010 Editor.
Thats what I use, its free and efficient, and I think it edits binary as well.

Very professional

Ohhhh thanks, blueparukia! I do care. I need to know how to do all this stuff. And 010 thing is actually good. And better as it's free.

Thanks again.

It doesn't take up much space for a name. For example, Billy Bob is 01000010 01101001 01101100 01101100 01111001 00100000 01000010 01101111 01100010.
