Default Future Domain Extentions?

What domain extentions do you think will we will have in the future?

Up until a few years ago, all there was was .com, .net, .org and a few country domains.

We've had .info, .mobi, .tv [but that's a country domain] in the last few years, what ones do you think will come out in the future?

I heard that they were considering .xxx for pornographic websites, however I recent magazine article seems to think they'll scrap the plans.

Maybe it will go more toward types. Like .media .wiki .news .radio
It would be nice to know the content of the site by the extension kinda like files.

Im sure there will be alot of extensions but hopefully buyers of them will be limited to official companies etc.
Ie no one should be allowed to use .news unless it is a real news site.

Kinda like the .gov and .org sites. I agree. One day it may be like buying a business license for certain extentions. I would like to see some rhyme or reason for domain extension. Just so I could tell what type of website it is. Not to mention if they had some type of requirement it might slow down some domains being purchased and nothing ever being put up on the site.

Right now ICANN sort out all the gTLDs. It costs $10k to apply for a new domain, and it may not even get accepted.

A new company, I forget what they're called, are making a new system which should make it much cheaper & easier to introduce your own gTLD. For example, you could have .computers or .yourname, and it wouldnt cost nearly as much as ICANN's fees.

So who knows what the future will spit out, but .com, .net, .org, .info and ccTLDs will always be the leaders of the market.
