Default Slow Computer

Hi,
My computer is running really slow at the moment. I have Comodo installed and it says that there are 53 applications running in the memory. Is this excessive or does that sound about right.

53 is not too excessive. we have pc's at work that run 60-65.
The minimum i have had xp down to was 27 on a real low end machine.
30-50 is not too bad.

Some programs just like to have a lot of processes
examples: Itunes, Adobe Acrobat (writer), McAfee or Symmantec... and HP printer softwares.

you can probably go and disable adobe speed launcher, Java Update Scheduler, HP Updater, Apple Updater, Adobe Updater from startup. It won't speed up the system much, but every little bit counts.

UPGRADE your memory and make sure your hard drive is not full or close to it.
Free antivirus are not accurate as they are not updated with most dangerous virus databases.

I would extend the memory, and try minimizing the number of applications especially those heavy ones the were mentioned...

other than that you can always backup your data and make a fresh new start by formatting your system drives and building it back carefully without putting any unnecessary applications.

Default Re: Slow Computer

the funny things that started with Windows XP... if you add more RAM, it will increase the number of processes to help the system out..
There is a minimum set of processes needed to run XP. If you have.... say.... 512mb ram, you may only have 19 default processes out of the box... but if you have 1 or 2gb ram, then your starting package jumps to close to 30 or so.
This was done so that less RAM would not hinder the windows experience, but more would help...

When buying a PC, choose a faster and more reliable performance. If you want a laptop with faster performance then you would prefer for another brand like Sony VAIO or HP Pavilion. You can also try to consider some computer systems available in the online computer stores.
