Exclamation Help!! Anoying virus i can't get rid of!!

There is some sort of virus on my computer which i cannot get rid off and won't show up in McAffee or avast! scans. I think I got it form running a dodgy .exe file but I'm not sure.

Every time I try to browse through my files in windows explorer or try to open internet explorer (which i don't usually use) the same error message box pops up saying:

"Attention [username]! Some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:\WINDOWS. Download protection software now!

Click OK to download the antispyware. (Recommended)"

Then you can click either yes or no but you can't close the program without ending the task and then it just starts up again by itself. When I click one of the buttons it takes me to a site which is blocked by McAffee for identity fraud or something.

A lot of the time windows explorer will stop responding completley and has to restart.

Could someone please help me to get rid of this extremely anoying virus.

Thanks

Did we scan for it in safe mode? Did we go in safe mode and delete the dodgy file? Did we ditch Windows and go to a superior OS? Last one optional

Try Housecall or Spybot. It would be nice if you could help a few other people here or donate towards server costs.

Thanks a lot for the advice Jam. I went to the site as u suggested and it detected two trojans and managed to delete one of them. The other one I think was removed by McAfee which detected it a while later.

The error message doesn't show up anymore anyway so I'm assuming its gone.

Thanks heaps
