Well my husband went and opened something on the Internet today that infected my computer with a butt load of spyware. They were all advertisements saying my computer is infected and blah blah trying to get me to buy their spyware removal. Well I have my own and I used it. It got all but one thing, Antivirus XP 2008. It actually installed itself on my computer. I tried removing it in add or remove programs but it won't uninstall. How can I get this F^$#^$& thing off my computer? Oh yeah, I ran a virus scan with my own software and it detected four viruses but for some reason didn't give me the option to remove them.

What aniti-virus software are you running?

Try removing it manually (Dragging the folder under Program Files into the Recycle Bin and then emptying the recycle bin)

I have Macafee. I also tried removing manually but there is no folder for it in my program files. I removed it from the registry but it's still on here.

I have had this BS before........... The only way I could get rid of it is chasing it down in the registry and killing it manually. Aside from that rip the hd if it can't be fixed. Crap spammmm.

I downloaded Spybot search and destroy. It took care of it.

well, first off, McAfee, please die.

Using this combo>> COMODO Firewall + ESET Nod32 AV will keep you completly safe and out of any internet harm. This combo has antivirus, spyware buster, and a firewall. As for the spyware, usually, spyware is hard copied on to sensitive dircetories in your PC. So your best bet to get everything clean would be to format. Listen to what i have to say and your machine will be brand new, clean of anything, and it will feel great. ::

First off, backup ANY important files, docs etc...

Then, grab your O/S disc, and the pop it in, and restart, make sure the CD boots.
Then use its feature to "Format" your hard drive.(This will completley wipe EVERYTHING off your hard drive. including the spyware and the trojan that most come with.

Next, go through the O/S installation.

Then, the first thing you want to do when your PC loads up nice and fresh, is go to downloads.com and download the Software i stated above.

Go through the installation for them all and then your computer will be totally safe and nice and clean and brand new feeling.

Then just put back all of the sensitive data that you backed up from before.

Wa-La! your computer is backdoor, trojan, spyware and malware or anything CLEAN! and now, since you have the software i recommended, you wont ever get anything bad again, unless someone shuts off all of it and downloads a trojan lol.

Follow this, and you will be set for another 3-4 years, when they come out with updates for everything lol.
