Locking you XP system=

Lock your WinXP system with a couple of mouse clicks--
Heres how to do it

Right click your desktop, select New and shortcut.
In the location field, type rundll32.exe,user32.dll,LockWorkStation.
Name the new shortcut.
When you want to lock your computer, just double-click the shortcut.
That easy!

You could also use the Windows logo key and hit L for lock - works on most keyboards

Other options, get USBLock, it's free, and you can reboot your computer when you pull a specified USB device from the computer (could be the printer cable if you want to be sneaky). They were working on having it LOCK the computer, but I didn't see that option implemented yet. Same for running without a tray icon.

But the Windows+L keys are very fast, and I use it constantly at work.

windows+L...I always thought that just switched users? Is locking and going into switching users mode the same thing?

No, they are different. Locking keeps you logged in, with programs running. It requires the original person to login/unlock, or a local administrator (who kicks off the user without saving anything).

Switching users is either logging out, or using fast user switching (which I do not believe is good as the original person still has processes running, taking up memory)

yea i was about to say that only switches, but i guess thats cool if you want that but i was just explainin the easy way to do it if you dont want to download anything and also if you just wanted to do some easy stuff. its really all a matter of opnion but i put it out there for people who want to do it. thats all
