Default General Virus Removal

Ok, I have always wondered how to remove a virus without AV software and reformatting. How exactly do you manually remove a virus from a computer?

well, if you find its location , sometimes you can just delete it , but when i manually remove them i use tools like HijackThis , Panda Active Scan , AVG antispyware , vundoFix, SMmit fraud

Well, you can usually get by with AVG Anti-Virus and AVG Anti-Spyware both freeware.

I use the below quite often to delete a stubborn file.It is called Unlocker...Good program.
As with all software read the readme file text after download.

DownLoadUnlocker

Well, I like to use the many free resources to find a nasty problem. If you know the virus name, you can usually get a set of removal instructions from the various AV sites. Some virus' have a nice removal script, others don't. It all depends on the virus in question. Typically, the ID is the hard part, once you know which files need to be removed, and which Registry keys need to be edited/deleted, things go much easier.

I've had one in the past, for which I used my Linux boot to fix...... that was the worst virus i had... and it was all the OS' fault. Stinking Win-ME!!! Otherwise, it would have been so easy to fix.

You can get ID info, and practices from the CastleCops web site. I've found it to be thorough. It is more than just a set of empty steps, but an educational path as well.
