Norton runs a full-system scan every week on my computer and it always turns up the same results, 1 error found, but then I "fix it" and it says it got rid of it, yet the next week it's there again. I don't think this is something that I'm doing as far as emails or sites I'm visiting, because I only visit a lot of clean, big, professional sites, but I think it's something that is on my computer that Norton just can't fix, even though it says it does. This is one of many reasons why I'm looking to upgrade. Avast is looking better to me every day.

It's not because Norton and Mcafee are better known that they are good, right ?

my recommandation : Get rid of Norton and buy a good antivirus application.

I can recommend Panda Internet Security.

I personaly use Avast + Zone Alarm combo...its really effective but maybe not the best on the computers resourses.

I use and have found NOD32 by ESET to be the best and least inevasive to my pc, it updates regulary also as the database is continually being updated during the day or night so you ae asured to have the most uptodate virus dtabase.

NOD32 is indeed the best antivirus you can pay for, as far as I have seen.

Firewall: Windows XP firewall

ZoneAlarm Pro or Suite depending on your OS

ZoneAlarm is probobly the best everything ive ever uses, it has all that stuff included in it. But i would defenetly agree that NOD32 is way better than alot of AVs out there. But overall best firewall is ZAP defenetly. PM bout either one of NOD32 or ZoneAlarm Pro i have a surprise for anyone that wants to PM me!!!!

I've used AVG free for 5 years & found it most efficient, I also have Spybot & Ad Aware 6.0

I would recommed AVAST & commodo all the way if you want free, or if you can afford to buy then NOD32

yea those are all good but another firewall you guys should check out is Outpost, this is much like ZoneAlarm but its even more user friendly

Zone Alarm in my opion is by far the best firewall software out there. And its not that expensive as well and I am using AVG 7.5 and thats excellent as well

Well, here's a role-reversal Ash, my computer thanks AVG for keeping me free of bad viruses for five years, over that period I've had some trojans but they were no problem.

If your antivirus software can't see the viruses, how do you know they are there? I suggest that you try a scan with Avast - and you will see how many viruses AVG misses.

Pardon me, but I didn't say AVG can't see the viruses, if it had of detected any they would have been moved into the vault & been healed as were the trojans.
I regularly scan twice a week with Spybot + occasionally with Ad-aware, so I'm pretty sure that AVG hasn't let me down, I rarely download anything, music etc, & I avoid porn sites like the plague, I look for movie clips sometimes & have to be careful because among the legit clips there are always one or two offering porn clips, thy are every damn where!!
