I have to wait a while now before I can get rid of Norton, but I will install AVG Antispyware soon and I already have Netgear so I feel good about that.

@pdwheeler : I don't recommend running two antivirus software apllications aside eachother.

You need to decide which one you want to keep and which one you want to delete. I recommend removing Norton Antivirus, because imho Norton sucks big time.

So, only run one antivirus application and keep it up-to-date and do a scan sometimes.

Better yet, just scan every file you download proactively, so that you are sure that there isn't anything harmful within files before you open it.

It's a strategy that I always use and I also create restore points before and after installing applications. If something goes wrong, I can go back to the restore point.

The problem is that Norton's virus detection engine isn't as effective as even some of the free ones and it slows down your PC somewhat.

Default AntiVirus and Firewall

The best firewall in the World is Comodo Firewall Pro.

The best AntiVirus? NOD32 by ESET Technologies (of course!).

Yo!

Free antivirus usually does the job well [i.e Avast], or if you want the best paid solution, Eset NOD32. It still surprises me how much people spend on antivirus for me to fix it with a free program I keep on a memory stick...

i use pc cillian and have done for years and if it has found a virus its always caught it it costs a bit,, around £40 but if you compare it to maybe getting someone out to sort an infected pc or even get a new hard drive in very nasty cases i recon its money well spent !!
