Default Conflicting Antivirus software

What sorts of complications can occur using two antivirus programs, such as McAfee and Avast? Would they cause a noticeable slowdown?

Do not try to use McAfee and avast. They do not like each other. When I tried to do that, I couldn't check my email in Eudora. Ash has told me that avast is much better than McAfee, ao you might want to just go with avast.

Hi again steelCity,
Welcome back to the forum - I hope to see you here more often in the future! And remember, the site can only work if you post in other threads as well as your own.

You should not run more than one antivirus program on your computer. Because they scan most of the files on your computer, and each watch out for a program reading all files [often virus behavior] then you will see your computer generate false positives, as well as causing slowdowns and other problems due to conflicts. I strongly suggest that you uninstall MacaFee and leave Avast on your system.

From how it sounds, I think he has McAfee now, but wants to get Avast. That's how I used to be. But my hard drive got wiped a few times over, so I got avast because my dad didn't install McAfee yet.

Thanks a lot, I'll definitely check out Avast, since that is the general consensus of the compuforum members.
