Default [SOLVED] Erasing History? Can you help?

hi,

i'm giving my pc dell laptop to my mum as i'm going way for a while...the trouble is,if she's searching through google or youtube, she'll find out what i was looking at...what i mean is,if she types just one letter onto the google(the one in the middle of the page)taskbar(youtube also),the history of what i was looking up appears underneath...i'm not really explaining this too well...she'll see that i wasn't immune to looking up the odd porn site!!! is there any way i can prevent these from coming up?

eddie.

Hi there eddiehazel,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership.

The best thing to do would be to reformat the computer [and install some decent antivirus software as well, other than the default Norton / MacaFee]. Do you have any of the original disks that came with the laptop?

If you want to get rid of everything, you might want to use a ghost disk. I'm not sure if you download them, but most computer stores have them if you need a copy. Danger with these disks is that they erase EVERYTHING. You'll need to reinstall your OS then every driver you need, but its an easiest way to make sure you get rid of everything.

What browser are you doing because I'm pretty sure I can fix that if you have firefox. If you are, this is how you do it. Go to Tools on the bar with File, Edit, View, etc. Go down until you find options. Once you open that, go to the privacy tab and unselect the box marked "Remember what I enter in forms and the search box." Then to clear anything still there press Ctrl+Shift+Del. Then uncheck every box except "Saved form and search history." "Click Clear Private Data Now" and you're good to go. Post me if you use a different browser and tell me which one. I'll reply to you back on how to do it.

With IE - go to Tools > Internet Properties >Delete History, and delete anything else like cookies, passwords etc.

To stop it popping up in the searchbar, type in a letter, when it pops up,hold delete.

No problem, we're here to help. I hope you can help us by coming back often and posting, rather than never returning now that we've spent time helping you.

What security software is on the computer? I suggest that you use Comodo Personal Firewall along with Avast Antivirus Home Edition, with Windows Defender. Also install the Firefox web browser for your mum - you can get it from this link: http://www.compuforums.org/get-firefox.html
With this software installed, your mum won't need to worry about any security problems. All of these programs update themselves automatically and they are all free.

I look forward to you doing so
Consider telling your mum about us - so if she has any problems with the laptop she knows where we are!
