Default Internet Virus on dirty movies

Hello folks, hope someone can help me. I was downloading a video off the internet and a pop up indicated that it needed to run an active x control to view it. Yeah I know... I gave the program access and now I have this annoying popup that I can't get rid of. It resides in my system tray and keeps warning me that there is virus activity, identifies a few viruses supposedly running on my system, warning me about security threats and if I right or left click on the icon it takes me to a wedsite that is pushing a program called AntiVermin. It hijacked my IE browser (so I switched to firefox) I have seen some posts on the internet that say that AntiVermin is a not legitimate and can be very hard to remove.

Is anyone out there familiar with this pesky program and can help a brother remove this pest. I didn't know where else to post this question. I posted here because I got the virus from the internet.

First what anti-virus program are you running? Download spybot 1.4 and run it to remove spyware , also you can go to Avast.com they have a free removel tool and scanner . If you don't have any virus protection I recommend using avast 4 home free edition. Both ti and spybot are free to use .

Hey cozee911,

This is further proof that pron is bad for you and your computer's health.
Only joking, just remember not to accept strange codecs next time, and to Google their names first

Firstly I recommend that you download and install, then run the scanners of the following programs:
Spybot S+D: The home of Spybot-S&D!

Ad-aware: Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition - Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com

a2 Free: a-squared Free (formerly a² free) Freeware! A2 is a free of charge Anti-Trojan, Anti-Worm, Anti-Dialer and Anti-Spyware Software - optimal protection

I am using System Mechanic which has a suite of anti-virus and system maintenance tools. It was working fine up until I goofed. Thanks for the info.

I already ran spybot, I will download the other suggested software and let you know how I fare.

You might want to try Avast:
Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition Download

In my opinion it's the best anti-virus program for Windows and I'm sure other members will back me up. When you first install it, you can set it to do a boot-time scan for viruses - this means that your computer will be scanned before Windows has fully started and viruses have had a chance to corrupt your anti-virus software. I suggest you do a boot-time scan deleting any infected files.

Just be sure to only run one anti virus program at the same time.

I agree with Ash, Avast is the best anti-virus program I have used.

Avast is great in so many ways.
Firstly, it self-updates. Not only it's virus definitions, but it can also be easily set up to update the actual program, completley automaticly.
Secondly, it stops viruses being downloaded. If a virus is spotted during a download it will report the problem and terminate the download of the virus.
Thirdly, the program does not eat system resources like programs such as Norton. It's lightweight and fast - in fact I've even installed it on a computer running Windows 98, with 64mb of RAM and a 666mhz Celeron, made in 2000.
