Hi jdzombo,

This may not be due to a security problem - all of these programs are quite intensive on your computer [you might want to consider changing Macafee and AVG - running two together isn't a good idea anyway- to a better, free, alternative]
Does your computer go through the "Windows is shutting down" sequence or does it immediately switch itself off? Also, is it a desktop or laptop computer, and how long have you had it for?

Yes, use only on anti-virus program. I also recommend Avast. Either one you choose, I'd recommend uninstalling all of your spyware/malware/virus scanning programs and reinstall them and see if that changes anything.

By all means never use two anti-virus programs at the same time. I use Avast free home edition and have never had any problems. A friend of mine was using Xoftspy and it was causing alot of problems on his system. I recommend Avast, Spybot search and destory 1.4 , Adware Se personel and windows defender which are all free.

Ash
my computer is about three years old.
my computer is a desktop.
as for shutting down, i get the blue screen that says your computer is shutting down, begin dump of physical memory. then you have to turn it off and restart.

what puzzles me is that this problem has never happened before.

thanks
joe

Have you uninstalled one of the antivirus programs you are running?
