 Vista V's XP Security I decided to conduct a little experiment. Heres what I did. I installed a fresh copy of XP on a Machine and a fresh copy of Vista on a machine. The purpose of this experiment was to see which OS lastest longest online without any other protection other than Windows Firewall. The xp machine lasted about 4 hours of general surfing before it became unusable. The vista machine is still working, although rather slow it is still functioning after a weeks worth of general surfing. This was a rather pointless experiment but I just wanted to see how the two OS's handled things with out a Virus checker or any 3rd party firewall applications. Please dont get me wrong im not saying Vista doesn't need virus software because it does! im just suprised at how well it coped with out any virus software.

| Re: Vista V's XP Security I must admit, security by default is one of Vista's [few] strong points. However, XP was also much more secure than Win9X out of the box.

| Re: Vista V's XP Security If you always go to trusted, legitamate sites (i.e. walmart.com, charter.net) you can go on forever without ever encountering a virus. It's when you go "surfing" to random unkown sites that you run into problems with virus infested sites, phishing copycat sites, spyware, malware, trojans... A lot of it depends on where you go on the internet. |

If you just visit legitamate sites then xp probably will work for a longtime. But I was putting both OS's through the paces to see which one cracked first - and as I expected it was XP!

| Re: Vista V's XP Security Yea there is no doubt in my mind the Vistas security is better. I just found it hard to believe that just surfing casue xp to halt after 4 hours, but now I understand.
