Okay, so I'm guessing you have Windows Vista on your laptop?
Have you tried booting from the Vista install disk, and chosing the repair option?
(at least I'm pretty sure it has a repair option)

Yes Windows Vista does have a repair option. I presume that becuase its an Advent, which is made my PC world that it should have a restore disk made by "the tech guys" which should have all the options for reinstalling or repair.

From start to crash, does it give any types or error messages?
What happens when you try the repair option on your CD?

I have heard that sometimes a bad part in your RAM can cause Windows to freeze at start up. Have you tried running a memory tester?

no error message. cant run repair from cd(went to bios and chose boot from cd). just ran safe mode and loads files until it gets to this - loaded:\windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys - then freezes. hope this will give you some ideas.

thanks. Pete

hmm, I've had a lil look around, and this seems quite a popul;ar error, even though theres notmany solutions grr...

Firstly, make sure you have no USB devices pluged in, and whenyouboot up, go into the BIOS settings. From here you should be able to disable your USB ports, and your firewire ports (If you have any).

From wht I've read, this has worked for a few people. And once they had loggedon, they just installed all the latest updates.

If not,then sorry mate, I really haven't a clue

If it's still under warranty, you should be able to get it repaired. If not, take it back to where you got it from under the Sales of Goods Act.
