Default New Build

Recently built a new desktop and everything is fine except that after the BIOS screen there is a 20 - 30 second delay before XP boots up. Have checked BIOS settings and they look OK. Any suggestions?

Western Digital sucks but anyways, try rebooting many times and see if the problem continues to arise. Also it could be an issue with you HDD. Go inside your PC and make sure everything is clean, unless it is a new computer. I do alot of things with my computer and i have had delays before even longer than 2-3 minutes. It happened to be that it was my HDD so i formated it and it worked fine after that. Also, try and use whatever OS you have installed on your PC, boot up the CD and click Repair wherever it is located. If this does not work, then like i said, back up any important or neccassary files, and then Format your HDD and see what happens.

I very much doubt that the brand of hard drive or people's opinions of it will affect your boot up time, but have you had a look in the BIOS configuration screens at the boot order? If the hard drive isn't at the top of that list, the system will spend time looking for an operating system on various external media before looking on the hard drive.

You could look inside your BIOS and see if Quick Boot is enabled. If it's not, enable it and save the changes.
