Default Windows shutoff, 8800GTX= 1.0?

Hi everyone,

I just built my computer today, installed Vista Home Premium with only 2
problems. One, both my disk drives are defective, and the only is the one I
am typing to you guys right now.

After I installed Vista, I noticed something weird. My 8800GTX was rated as
a 1.0 on the scores table. I tried reintsllaing the drivers with no avail.
Still at a 1.0, I tried to refresh the hardware. The computer shuts off just
like I pressed the power switch.

The problem gets worse however.

I then tried to install Crysis, which worked, until I actually tried to
play. After the game fully loaded it tells you to "press any key to continue"
which will let you start the level. Immidietly after I press "any key to
continue" it shuts the same way it did when I tried to refresh the scores.

Any time I try to change the drivers, it doesn't work anymore, it tells me I
am using a 32 bit uninstaller and a 64 bit file.

Why does my computer keep crashing after I try to change the settings of it
or play a game?

Hi Jet,
Firstly, I'd like to welcome to CompuForums - it's good to have you here. I hope you will be on the board for a long time, and if there is anything I can do to make your experience better please let me know. We are here to help you, so it would be appreciated if you could help us by posting in threads as well as your own. By doing so, you are helping to keep this site running in the future, and we will respond to your thread faster too. If you can't help us, then we can't help you.

This sounds like a hardware problem, but it could well be Vista. Try reformatting with XP 32bit and installing your drivers, and seeing if the game works. It might be a problem with your video card - try borrowing a friend's.

Thanks, I will definitely throw my opinions out there..however wrong they may be.

If it is a hardware problem, is there a way I can fix it other than returning it?

You could try reformatting and reinstalling driver [preferably with another OS like XP] but if it happens again then it'll have to go back. I do suggest that you try another video card just in case it's something else in your hardware causing it.
