slow xp login

i have windows xp professional sp 2

i am the system administrator and when i login it hangs when the loading your personal settings, appyling your personal settings goes away and my wallpaper shows but it takes a while for the icons and taskbar to show

i have a pentium 4, 1.80ghz cpu 1.75 ghz, 768 mb of ram and i have 2 partitions, one is for the os and the other is for data such as music, pictures, etc.
