Default why is system so slow now i am on Vista 64bit ?

hi all, finally managed to get vista home premuim 64bit installed on my pc, so far no issues as far as compatability however it seems so so slow compared to when i was on XP, when start up it takes ages to boot and when i shutdown its the same !
when i open internet web pages it is like i am back on dial up not 8meg broadband its just SLOW !

can anyone give me any pointers to speed it up ?

i still have my old windows xp on hard drive from installation shall i delete this ?

my system is core 2 duo 6400 with 1022mb ram, when i run performance rating it gives me 3.3 windows experiance if thats any help ?

well that really depends ony our current system properties.

what is your motherboard model number , this will allow to see if it iscompatible with Pci-e Video cards, which are currently the main stream and best value

id say 150.00USD would make for a fine video card with direct X 10 and fully suporting windows vista areo user interface.

does 150 sound ok?

You ran into the same issue I did with Vista. I had the same processor and 1GB memory. I noticed a huge boost in performance when I went to 4GB (overkill for the O/S, but I'm a gamer) and a 10,000RPM HDD. My boot takes about 8 seconds, if that. Programs are really responsive.

Vista likes to suck up resources, so 1GB is really going to hinder your performance.

Note, some of Vista's most recent updates (Patch Tuesday for October 2007) included some updates to speed up Vista boot. I think some performance tweaks were going on too. But first, make sure you update your system fully.

Both sound like they would work, but the ram probably would do more.
