Default Win XP Pro x64

My son just recently obtained a PC with an Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor, and wanted to install Win XP Pro x64.
My problem is that I cannot get the darned thing to re-format the hard drive (a WD1600 SATA-II), and when it starts I get the BSOD indicating there is an issue with the NTFS.SYS file.
Professing my lack of knowledge, is that a file on the Win XP Pro x64 install CD? Also, is there a different way to format a hard drive for a 64 bit OS as opposed to a 32 bit OS?
When the PC boots up, it recognizes the drive just fine.

Help!!!!!

Is the CD a retail copy or one that's been "home burned"?
The best option would probably be to use something like Gparted [or just a good old boot floppy] to reformat the disk first, then trying to install XP.

Try finding a Ghost AX cd. I use them to completely wipe my computers. All computer repair stores ussually have one, its just a matter of asking for a copy.
