Ubuntu Pros and Cons

I've been looking at this Ubuntu OS (partially cause I lost all my CD keys to XP

) and it looks pretty clean. I just wanted to know if games and such work with this operating system, without being specially made. What do you guys find good about it?

Sorry, one more thing to add, Is it totally free, or do you need to pay some sort of fee for it? I'd rather use a cheap OS, then pay $100 for something I already have.

Ubuntu is totally free, apart from the cost of your blank CD and possibly internet fees. But it's free to use, modify, copy, and you can install it on as many computers as you like.
You won't be able to run Windows games natively - you'll either have to use Wine or a virtual machine. It depends on what you plan on playing though. But it would be better off keeping a copy of XP on a separate partition if you want to do any heavy gaming at all.

Wine? Virtual Machine? I'm not familar with these...

Wine allows you to run .exes in Linux. Virtual Machine allows you to run windows apps in mac or linux. I'm sure somebody else here has a better explanation.

Ubuntu is a clean OS, and very good to use. I personally boot Linux from a CD or USB when I need it, because I was brought up with Windows, and if you are the same, Ubuntu may get......boring.....thats the closest I can describe.

Nevertheless, get used to it and you will enjoy it. Also look at othe Linux Distros such as RedHat or whatever.

I've been searching online for a while on how to set up a virtual machine, and I can't understand a thing about it....Does anyone have any information on how to do this? I'd appriciate any help you can give me.

Try a program like Virtualbox:
VirtualBox

I'm already having problems with ubuntu

I'm using a wireless card, but I don't have the drivers for linux, so I searched the help box, and found a program called ndiswrapper. This is suppose to be in the ubuntu install CD, but I can't find it... Is there anyother way to fix this?

i thin its a waste fo time personally, it cant run 90% of the things i need.... i would just stick with xp in a seperate partition , along with ubuntu if you plan on getting it

This program doesn't want to download for some reason...Is there anymore programs like this? I bought a new wireless card, so I don't want to give up on linux without a fight

Yes there are, and I've had no trouble installing VirtualBox. Maybe the download server was busy, try again later.
