Default Urgency please help - NT AUTHORITY SYSTEM SHUTDOWN

Hi there, i have a problem.

I have a Pentium 4 2.6Ghz with 1GB ram & running windows xp on a 80Gig hard-drive.

My operating system was working fine until one day i was doing work and had to go out so i went into the SWITCH USER mode which i always do when i go away from my PC.

Anyway when i logged back in, a popup screen saying NT AUTHORITY SYSTEM SHUTDOWN, c:\\windows\system32\lsass.exe terminated with status code -1073741819 ;and then restarts within a 60seconds count down timer.

When i used my laptop to check on the net on how i can resolve the problem, i managed to get into my profile and type "shutdown -a" in the run menu. After having done that, i couldn't find system restore to disable it.

Now when i start up my pc to try and resolve the problem, it won't allow me to enter my profile. I enter the correct password but it tells me invalid password. I also have put the hard-drive in an external hard-drive casing and scanned for trojans/viruses...it has removed them but when i put the hard-drive back in my pc - i'm back to square one. I don't mind reformatting but the main thing i need is documentation and stuff that's within my desktop (thru my profile) which i can access but can't copy them.

I would appreciate it if any1 could assist me, if would be of great help.

Many thanks,
Sashen

This may seem crude, but try to get all of your important files off of your computer and re-install Windows. What I suggest is getting Live CD of Ubuntu Linux, popping it in, get your files and re-install Windows.

What antivirus software did you use to scan the drive?

I used avast! , avast virus cleaner tool, windows malicious software removal tool, ad-aware, ashampoo... tried them all.

all the important files lie within the DOCUMENT & SETTINGS folder, which contains 3 sub-folders (user accounts). My bro's and my profile are password protected. DO u think backing up the entire folder using a backup program would work?

After i manage to backup those files, i can then reformat..

Yes - as long as you format the drive, the virus should be gone.

Download a copy of 'Emergency Boot CD', boot into it and you will have several options to reset passwords and recover data. This is a powerful package and thus dangerous in the wrong hands, hence the reason I'm not posting a link.
