Default RAM upgrade from Vista

I have vista on 512MB, and I going to upgrade it, how much should I upgrade it to 1GB or 2 Gb, for better performance, right now the performance is pathetic.

1 gig is recommended for vista, 2 gigs will give you better performance.

We are not ordering any system with less than 2GB of ram, we are not on Vista yet, but our plans for hardware are to prepare. With what Lelwonger stated, yes 1gb is a minimum. It's more like running 256 on XP. It runs, but not as smooth as you like. Yes I know XP has a 128 minimum, however, you wouldn't like to run it with that little of Memory.

Another new thing in Vista (which I'm looking for a 3rd party) is ReadyBoost. You can use empty space on a USB Flash drive to increase the system memory on Vista. True this is slower, and it's gone when you remove the device, but it is available. You may want to try it if you stop at 1gb.

Our test system for Vista runs 1.5gb RAM (older P4 at 512, with additional 1gb brought later) It runs fine for now, but we have not given it a long term usage test as of yet. We have mainly been looking at how many LOB applications (Line of Business) are not working.
