What are you using to measure these, and have you noticed any lag?

While I don't have a solution, I wanted to comment that I also have Vista with 1 G RAM and AMD Dual Core Processor and have had NO problems (spitting over left shoulder!).

I got my computer in March (from Dell) with Vista Home Premium installed. I've been perusing various forums to see if people have been having problems, and, while I haven't made a scientific study of it, it would appear that when upgrades are done, there are more problems...

Then again, it seems as though your situation is Not an upgrade. You did clean install.

So, I'm just agreeing with you that this is Not normal... I'll be interested to see who posts & comes up with a solution.

I doubt that's the Problem. I have 1 GB of RAM in my Vista computer and it runs fine (I'm thinking about getting another GB, though).

Trying reinstalling Vista with a clean install. Maybe something just get screwed up the first time...

what is the L2 cache size of the processor , and what speed is it running at

also try turning the windows Vista areo user interface off and see if that helps you speed up , vista DOES use alot of ram and i cannot believe people would buy a computer with less than 2 gigs with vista

You have 256MB right? lemmie explain something

It has been 6 years since Windows Xp was released , 6 years ..... why do you think vista needs so much memory , Because it is 6 years newer , 6 years of advances ..... if you ask me i think 2 gigs for a computer is Very reasonable ..... Im not trying to **** anyone off here , But i guess this is a good place to say get with the times my friend , respectfully

Also take into the facts of what has been considered a system hog. Both software and hardware advance. Most OS's are considered system hogs when released. As hardware specs become more standard, the requirements seem more reasonable. When MS Vienna is going to be released, I'm guessing that vista will run on what is considered an average or less computer. Computers are of a changing matter.

LOL! This is stupid.... Buy Vista when it doesn't use up too many resources.

Have you checked to see what is running in the background. If it's an OEM upgrade their could be all sorts of garbage loaded.
