Hey guys

something is really killing my performance here on my desktop equiped with a Intel celeron D 2.8Ghz 512kb l2 cache and 1GB of ddr533 memory

i am getting cpu usage spiking in the upper 90's and only running 2 programs Firefox ( 11% cpu usage and lime wire only using 13% cpu) that adds up to 24% and im hitting the upper 90's and maxing out at 100% and i am using 550 mb of my 1024 i checked task manager and it only shows about 15 more percent of other crap running which still dosent show why im running so high cpu

any ideas

What OS are you running?

Windows xp home sp2

:S this is gonna be hard. Well, what programs are constantly running, if none, have you checked your heatsink? A lot of CPU strain is off a blocked heatsink sometimes.

I can have nothing running and and Taskmanager showing 38 Processes and they onlyuse about 4% added toghether , and i can be running at 34% cpu usage

Hardware is perfect all parts and running perfectly , just checked

Did you scan your system for trojans?

I suggest running Spybot Search and Destory Plus do what Oleg suggested. You probably have spware running in the background.

No offense but spybot is one of the worst spybots on the net. Free spyware removal and spyware protection - Spyware Terminator - Check it out, it's free and it keeps my computer spyware and virus free with it's integrated virus scanner. There isn't much good freeware on the internet but this is good freeware.

I never had any trouble with SpyBot S&D, I used it before Windows Defender came out. But then, maybe it's because I don't download anything that looks 'dodgy'.

I have run the following every 2 weeks and they just ran today

Windows defender
AVG anti spyware
AVG anti virus 7.5
spybot s/d
ad-aware SE
and i have spyware blaster constantly running in the background ( 3% cpu usage )

all scans where clean , avg antispyware found 3 cookies and thats it

because Spybot: Search & Destroy couldn't catch a cold.

who ever is telling you these things is an idiot .... and you are one to believe them

Spybot: Search & Destroy Is very basic tool for average user,but not for a tech or expert user.
