Question I want to ditch Vista for XP....Please help

Hi All,

I do not know too much about PC's and I want to do the same to mine as did Looneytunes. Can someone provide step by step instructions on how to delete the Vista? I have a OEM copy of XP that I bought at a computer show. I want to install that but it gives me an error saying: the os I am trying to install is older than the current, so it can not allow me to override(SOMETHING LIKE THIS). Please help.

Thanks
Vince

P.S. I am sorry Ash.... I am new to the group did not know that was wrong to do......

Go into your Motherboard BIOS and select what drives will boot your new OS. For example, it it's CD/DVD, you add CD/DVD. Pretty easy stuff.

Insert the disc and hold F8 (It's F8 for my acer Aspire) and choose which drive to boot your OS from. If you have the XP disc in, it should be pretty easy from there.

It will prompt you to format your C Drive which WILL get rid of Windows Vista.

This is how you would go about doing it on my Laptop though.

Hi there vroman,
Firstly, welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receiving our help and advice, and then never visiting again. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership. Not giving back to the community is like stealing - we provide our time for free and hope to have some of yours spent on the site in return.

Has the OEM copy of XP been installed on any other computer before?
What Keith has told you is pretty much the easiest way - but there are some newer computers that the manufacturers have tried to make it difficult to install XP on. If you provide us with your computer make and model, we can provide more specific instructions.
