Lightbulb Dual Boot Videos

Lots of people are curious as to whether Linux is better than Windows, is OS/X better than Linux, and so on.

On of the more popular Linux varieties is Ubuntu. For those wanting to experiment and learn for yourself, here are a few Google videos to help the process.

Before you watch these, please note that Ubuntu releases a new version (free) every 6 months. At the time of this post, Ubuntu v. 7.04 is released. The next release will be 7.10 (called "Gusty Gibbon"), and that release will have have a new desktop interface, and will allow for an easier (unattended) installation. More information about Ubuntu can be found at Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu

This video shows a Dual Boot of Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu (prior to 7.04) WITHOUT any OS pre-installed:
Ubuntu Linux / Windows Dual Boot Instructional Video - Google Video

This second video is similar, but with Windows already installed:
Installing Ubuntu with Windows Dual-Boot - Google Video

This video is Part 1 of How to Dual Boot Windows XP and Mac OS/X:
YouTube - How to Dual-Boot Windows XP & Mac OS X Part 1

This video is Part 2 of How to Dual Boot Windows XP and Mac OS/X:
YouTube - How to Dual-Boot Windows XP & Mac OS X Part 2

If you are going to try one of the above Dual Boot installations on your computer ... DO A FULL BACKUP FIRST. www.CompuForums.org or (cityPCservice for that matter) shall not be held liable for damages. Do your research first, and I recommend experimenting with Dual Boot on a computer that is NOT your primary PC.

Default Dual Boot

Ubuntu is FREE FREE FREE! Ubuntu is free to download (about 700 MB), or, you can go to their website and order a free CD -- they even pay for the shipping, it won't cost you a dime.

For Dual Boot Ubuntu/Windows XP, watch the first two. They show exactly HOW to dual boot.

After watching the video, take a break, and watch them a second time. The second time you watch it, you'll pick up on things that you missed on the first time.

Also .. take notes while you are watching the video. You can pause it, jot a few notes, rewind it, and play it over and over.

Default Ubuntu Shipping

I would immagine so. Go to Ubuntu, create an account, and try. Ubuntu is for the whole world, and I believe Ash (in the UK) has ordered CD's from them.

One excellent site for OS [in this case, Ubuntu] screenshots is Ubuntu 7.04 Screenshots :: Courtesy of OSDir.com. You will be able to find a lot more by simply typing "ubuntu screenshots" into Google.

Thanks for the link. I also googled linux. They look nice, but I don't think I could get used to linux. I've been using windows too long for me to switch. I had macs at my elementary schools, but I didn't like to use them. I've always had windows on my home computer, and that's all I want to use.

Default Dua Boot

Actually, a dual boot OS PC is an excellent way to learn other operating systems. New things always seem hard and difficult -- until you learn them. Users who were raised with Linux or Mac say the same thing you said, but about Windows.

I'm a technician, and when I see something new, I tend to still say the same thing, until I experiment and learn the software. In no time you'll have it mastered and be a guru. Give it a try. At least you can say you tried it.

I will be dual-booting to experience a different os. The one thing is, the os happens to be vista. But if I want to out phase xp, I might get Linux of Ubuntu.
