For those wanting to experiment and learn for yourself, here are a few Google videos to help the process. Before you watch these, please note that Ubuntu releases a new version (free) every 6 months. At the time of this post, Ubuntu v. 7.04 is released. The next release will be 7.10 (called "Gusty Gibbon"), and that release will have have a new desktop interface, and will allow for an easier (unattended) installation. More information about Ubuntu can be found at Ubuntu Home Page | Ubuntu This video shows a Dual Boot of Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu (prior to 7.04) WITHOUT any OS pre-installed: Ubuntu Linux / Windows Dual Boot Instructional Video - Google Video This second video is similar, but with Windows already installed: Installing Ubuntu with Windows Dual-Boot - Google Video This video is Part 1 of How to Dual Boot Windows XP and Mac OS/X: YouTube - How to Dual-Boot Windows XP & Mac OS X Part 1 This video is Part 2 of How to Dual Boot Windows XP and Mac OS/X: YouTube - How to Dual-Boot Windows XP & Mac OS X Part 2 If you are going to try one of the above Dual Boot installations on your computer ... DO A FULL BACKUP FIRST. www.CompuForums.org or (cityPCservice for that matter) shall not be held liable for damages. Do your research first, and I recommend experimenting with Dual Boot on a computer that is NOT your primary PC. |

| Ubuntu is FREE FREE FREE! Ubuntu is free to download (about 700 MB), or, you can go to their website and order a free CD -- they even pay for the shipping, it won't cost you a dime. For Dual Boot Ubuntu/Windows XP, watch the first two. They show exactly HOW to dual boot. After watching the video, take a break, and watch them a second time. The second time you watch it, you'll pick up on things that you missed on the first time. Also .. take notes while you are watching the video. You can pause it, jot a few notes, rewind it, and play it over and over. |

| Actually, a dual boot OS PC is an excellent way to learn other operating systems. New things always seem hard and difficult -- until you learn them. Users who were raised with Linux or Mac say the same thing you said, but about Windows. Quote:
