Default Help With Windows and my DVD rom

Aright i dont know if this should go here but whatever. Anyways i installed a new DVD rom a while back and everything was working fine fir a while. Then i tried to install my brothers psp softwear on my comp and everything went fine. It seemed to be working right then windows said that it had to restart to complete the instlation. Which is pretty normal with alot of softwhere. Then when my comp restarted it wouldnt recognize my dvd rom. It still works and will open and close but windows doesnt recognize it and it doesnt show the icon under my computer. I know this is a problem with windows because i tried to hook up my old cd rom and it wouldnt recognize that either. But under computer management it will recognize that its hooked up. So i tried to unstall it and then reinstall it and it starts out fine, and the icon pops up on the taskbar that says that new hardware has been found but then right after that a message pops up and says an error has occured, your new hardware might be corrupt. Ive spent hours trying to fix this ▐▐▐▐ and cant figure out what the ▐▐▐▐ is up with it. I would just reinstall windows but i cant because my cd rom doesnt work. So right now im stumped. Someone please help me!!

Hi there antihero867,
Firstly welcome to CompuForums, I hope that you can stick around and post here rather than vanish, never to return once we've given you our advice which is a really unfair thing to do.

Booting onto your CD-ROM is not dependant on Windows, so you should still be able to reinstall Windows.
You might want to try removing the CD-ROM drive again, and reinstalling it - then, download the driver for it from the manufacturer's website and using the "Update driver" option to install it.

Before we go on, just to check that it isn't simply a faulty drive - do you have access to a Windows installation disk or recovery disk? If so, put it in the drive and restart your computer. See if it starts to run.
