| Hi there MAL0372, Welcome to CompuForums. I hope that you can visit our forum often in the future and post - rather than just receive our advice, fix your problem and then disappear - doing so is unfair and considered rude, particularly to those who have helped you. We provide our help for free, and all we ask in return is that you participate in our forum and refer your friends, or consider a premium membership. Firstly - please turn Caps Lock off! When you post something in all-capitals, the forum puts a letter in front of every one of your words which is very hard to read. All-caps is considered shouting on the internet, and it can annoy people. Secondly, can you tell us what operating system your laptop is running?

| It may be possible to recover the account without reinstalling Windows, but first please let us know what operating system it runs.

| Give this a try (assuming you have XP): Start the computer in safe mode (when the computer turns on and does the typical power-up tests, press F8, and when prompted, select "Safe Mode"). This will automatically enable the dafault "Administrator" account (I'm assuming you have a different account that has admin privilages but is not the one that is called "Administrator")--generally people don't set a password for this account when installing windows. If not, you're in luck. If so, then I'll have to think more. But if you didn't set a password for this account, then if you do get into the Administrator account through safe mode, from there you can go into the User Profiles (in the control panel) and delete any password associated with any account and set a different password--you don't have to know or type in the original password, just simply delete it. Hopefully that works.

| There are various Password recovery tools on the market to reset your Admin -- some of the free. If your PC has a floppy disk drive, try this site to download the software. Here is another NT password recovery tool. Link here. Last edited by Tom; 05-06-2007 at 10:59 AM. |

| Hi, why not try the linux orphcrack live cd. This boots into a linux distro, opens only 1 windows and by 10-15 mins, will have cracked all user password hashes, including Administrator! Enjoy!http://www.compuforums.org/images/smilies/yes.gif ![]()
