I don't see the point in these. You need an OS to access this, and chances are, the OS you're using will be far better than a web-based one could ever be.

I think it's really just a demo of what can be done. Personally, I would prefer to use the OS on the computer, or install it on a pendrive - or even take a laptop. I certainly wouldn't use it for general use - you don't know what the people behind this are doing with your information.

I have spent a good hour looking at youos. And i think it is fantastic. You can even watch every single of South Park through this OS. And play a NES emulator. And the good thing is that i can store all my files in one place and get them on all computers i have access to. There are loads of different programmes you can get.

Yeah... the real concern once more here is identity theft and privacy. I'm glad to see the possibility and the things it will be able to do, as well as the things we can do with it... but as long as that issue hasn't been cleared up I will stay pessimistic about it.

Question Good thread.

The first message I received when going to the website [www.youos.com] was an error/warning message stating the the OS will not work with my current Browser -- Opera 9.1

The "more info" link on their site further says

Quote:
We regularly test and develop YouOS on Internet Explorer 6.0, Firefox 1.0.7, and Firefox 1.5 on Windows and Firefox 1.5 on Mac.
Then, attempting to login from IE 6.x I received multi-error messages. However, I believe the YouOS may be something like Google Apps where you can use many features online, create and save docs, view apps, etc. and have access to them online. The YouOS concept is cool, but I still prefer Google Services and using my own desktop OS.
